Apout £3O have been obtained by means of a working bee in connection with St Mark’s Church, Carterton. The sale of goods commenced on Tuesday afternoon and a large number of persons attended. The following ladies were upon the committee Mrs W. Booth, Mrs and Mias Burnett, Mrs G. Gardener, Mrs A. Booth, Mrs Price, Mrs Braun, Mr and Miss Carter, Miss Morgan, Mrs Bachelor, Mrs Edward Eagle, and the Misses Eagle. At a ball at Sheffield, England, recently, a young man named Henry Mason was dancing, when he suddenly became giddy and fell to the ground. He fell heavily, and died seme time after from concussion of the brain.
Macaroni won the Hawkea’ Bay Steeplechase Handicap yesterday. The heavy rains still continue in Sydney, the registered rainfall since Saturday being nearly twelve inches. All the low r -lytng lands in the vicinity of the city are submerged.
