Parliamentary Affairs.

By the time we go to press, the work of the session will have fairly commenced, and the dreary debate on the address in reply, will be in full swing. The same “ Address iu Reply ”is a piece of antiquated humbug. It is simply a lot of wishy-washy sentences all directed to the general statement that the House quite agrees with all that his Excellency had previously stated iu " the speech from the Throne.” The House would be far better to cut the business short by passing a resolution to this effect; —“We are glad to have heard your Excellency’s speech aud desire, in a general way, to express a formal agreement with its statements. By aud bye, when the measures indicated iu the speech, are brought forward, wc will give them a fair consideration. In the meantime we simply thank your Excellency for having made a speech to us.” To adopt such a course as that would save a lots of wordspinuing and a painful flow of tepid and halting speeches. We want a little more Republican simplicity iu our system of parliamentry procedure.
