All the settlers knew the Trust was for a school and public hbnny. The Government had, however, provided for the school and he thought the Trust should help ihe Institute, It was through tie Trust that the Institute was built, and he was not aware of any grant having been given since owing to the difficulties which the Trust had been in. These were now overcome. The Provincial and General Governments and the settlers had helped the Institute and he thought the Gme had come when ibe Trust could do the some. JJo would propose that a deputation consisting of Messrs Skcct, Western, Nation, and H. H. Jackson should be asked to wait upon the Trust and ask if they wero prepared to make an annual grant to tiro Institute, aad if so, what amount.

Mr. Wood thought the idea was a good one, and would second Mr. Brook's motion if the name of the chairman was added to the deputation. Mr. Brooks said he was quite wi.ling to add Mr. Poxritt’s name.

Mr. Wood remarked that ho thought the Trust was not much better oil at present for funds than the Institute. But ho believed the Trust would do all in its power as it was formed for educational purposes. Mr. Brook’s motion was carried. Mr. Nation thought it the Trust were not now in a position to help it was all the more necessary that the committee should consider the advisability of getting up a series of entertainments for tho winter evenings. Mr. Webster suggested that tho Institute committee amalgamate with the Hospital committee, and divide tho proceeds between the two Institutions. Tho Rev. Mr. Western moved that a scries of entertainments be organised by these committees and that the proceeds be divided, as suggested. Mr. Wood seconded, and the motion was

carried. Mr Webster moved that the following gentlemen be a committee for the purposes of carrying out the entertainments ; Messrs Wood, Nation, Wyett, Gray, H. Udy, Dr. Bey, and Revs. Western and Ward. The Chairmen seconded the motion. Carried. " Mr. Wood proposed and the Ilov. Mr. Western seconded that Mr. Webster act as secretary to the committee. Carried. It was arranged that the committee should meet on Thursday evening aud if possible arrange for an entertainment at the upper room of the Institute on tho Thursday evening following. Some difficulty was felt with regard to getting a piano tor the series of concei ts, when it was suggested that as Mr. Wood was agent for the Mi; ,sou pianos, which were so highly prized by some persons in ,lio district, that gem cuius would perhaps be able to arrange for tho use o) one.
