The alleged Castletown Roche murderer, William Sheehan, was placed on board the R.M.S. Ruapehu, when she left Wellington for England.

To-morrow, at Masterton, Messrs Lowes and loins will sell tbe whole of Mr H. Vallauco’s lot of horses &c., Ac. Two little children ran up to the Rev. Mr. Western a few days ago as he was riding on a country road and with tears in their eyes besought him to go to a man who was drunk and had fallen off his horse. The rev. gentleman rode off and discovered an intoxicated man with one foot in the stirrup iron and lying in such a position upon the road that the wonder is the horse had not moi tally injured him. Witn some difficully, Mr. Western got him up on his feet, and when he had recovered somewhat the man demanded of his helper who he was. “Fm the parson,” said Mr. Western. This remark made the inebriate look very sad, and not wishing it to be thought he was drunk declared bebad the “ rheumatiz.” This, however, was too thin for Mr. Western. He next assisted the man on to his home, and sent him on his way. Unlike the priest and Levite of old the rev. gentleman did not pass him by on tbe other side. He certainly played the part of a good Samaritan, with the exception that he did not take this " certain man ” to the “ inn.” It probably struck Mr. Western that be had been there already.
