Showyard Judging.

The editor of tho Live Stock Journal thus writes on a new system of judging live stock at shows, and from his description it would appear that the hist trial was wonderfully successful. He says;— “ The proposal made in our columns some weeks ago in reference to showyard judging, was successfully carried out at the show of the American Clvdeadale Association, recently held at Chicago. The. correspondent of an American contemporary says Permit me to express approbation of, and verv highly commend, tho manner in which tho committee was organised. Two only of the three committee men acted at one time, the third remaining in the ring, and, when necessary, acting as umpire in the event of a |tie vote. If the two on dntv agreed in the selection of the same annual tor tho premium, the award was so decided. If the two selected diilerenl animals, thou the umpire decided on one of the two selected; and in this manner ditloreuces were quickly and satisfactorily settled I imdei stand that each member of the committee acted alternately as umpire when the animals were shown i a different classes, thus preventing auv collusion, and thereby making it im possible for a combination to be formed among the judges for or against any competitor litis method made ft necessary for each judge to act independently, and decide without consultation or knowledge of tho views of the other In case of a tie vote, tho umpire decided between the two animals voted upon entirolv upon his own jndment’ without knowing the preference of either of tho judges. Tnis plan gives the strongest incentive fir each member to exercise his very best judninnt, and combines tho advantages of the one, two, and thieo judge systems, without the disadvantages of cither. Fair and impartial awards are secured, and the management is saved the risk and trouble of going outside for a referee, whose jndment might be influenced by the surrounding crowd from which be was selected. ’ "
