Carterton School Pienic.

About 500 persons were present on Friday at the Carterton school picnic, held in Mr VickerslafTs padlock, and the large assemblage thoroughly enjoyed the day. There were all sorts of sports and a great variety of prizes were distributed among the children. After partaking of the refreshments, of which there was a bountiful supply, Mr R. Fairbrother, chaiiman of the committee, addressed (he company and presented the prizes to the successful competitors at the recent examination, consisting of books, writing desks, albums, Ac. Three enthusiastic cheers were then given for the ladies who bad so splendidly provided the refreshments, Mr bamuel, the head teacher, Mrs Samuel, the assistant teachers and the chairman. The prizes were presented as follows : Infant ("lass—Adam Armstrong, Amy Broadbent, Martin Johnson, Hannah Whyte, attendance, pro* ficiency and good conduct.
