Those Dear Little Ferrets.
There is no doubt that the ferrets are doing good work in the back country in keeping down the rabbits; but they are a great scourge when they get about the townships. We were told the other day that Mr Kimberly had lost forty fowls through a visit of one or rTare of these animals. Yesterday, Mr A. J. Orufcf of Matarawa, informed us that he hadJnist fowls, chickens and ducks (17 in all) and the ferret had not been caught. Even in the daytime the poultry are worried by stray ferrets, ft is believed that at the present time there are two or throe lurking about that neighborhood. The other evening a resident nearly trod upon one as ho was walking, and another paid a visit to Mr Gallon’s dusks, and attacked several.
