LORD DERBY AVERSE TO SAMOAN ANNEXATION. AN “ INVINCIBLE ” MURDERED IN O’DONOVAN ROSSA’S OFFICE. SMALLPOX IN SYDNEY. GOOD NEWS FROM GORDON. London. January 9. Australian tallow—Average quality beef, 24s ; ditto mutton, 34s 6d. New Zealand frozen mutton, prime quality, is quoted at did. The Melbourne portion of the cargo of frozen mutton, ex Garonne, is selling at 53, and that from Sydney at 4d to 41 d. Both shipments have been landed in good condition. January 10. The corrected total of the amount of tenders for the New Zealand Loan is £4,190,000, and tenders at £99 6s 6d will receive 65 per cent of the amount tendered for, not 30 per cent., as previously stated. Lord Derby is not in favour of annexing Samoa, as proposed by the New Zealand Government.
