WAIRARAPA RACE MEETING.

The races this year were a grand success. The weather which had been previously very cold and wet cleared up, and alight dry south-easter prevailed during the whole of the first day. The attendance was not very numerous on the first day, owing to the flooded state of the rivers. However we must compliment the stewards on the arrangements they made, for it was undoubtedly through their indefatigable exertions that this year’s races have passed off so well The only accident of any consequence which occurred was to Mr. William O’Meara, who, while cantering round the course, came into collision with another equestrian, the shock throwing him violently out of the saddle. He was taken up insensible and remained for some time. He recovered slightly on the following day, but not sufficiently to warrant any very sanguine hopes of recovery. At the last moment of going to however, we are happy to say, more favorable, symptoms have set in, as he has recovered consciousness perfectly. The subjoined is the list of winners, but we are unavoidably precluded in the present issue from giving that de tailed account of the various events which our readers had a right to expect - FIRST DAT, WEDNESDAY, FEB. 17
