RELIEF WORKERS

TWO WEEKS’ PAY AND BONDS. DETAILS OF ALLOCATION. In accordance with the Unemployment Board’s decision, the Hamilton Borough Council has made the following arrangements for pay for relief workers over the Christmas holiday period:— On Friday, 20th December, one week’s relief pay will be paid for ration of relief for the week ending 21st December. One week’s holiday pay will be distributed for the week ending 28th December, and a week’s Christmas bonus pay will also be allowed. On Friday, 3rd January, relief workers will receive one week’s holiday pay for the week ending 4th January, 1936.

Workers eligible for holiday pay will be all No. 5 scheme workers employed on a rationed basis —that is, less than 40. hours per week; also clerical workers employed in bureaux, local body offices, relief depots, etc. Where men are employed by local authorities for full time at standard rates of pay the Unemployment Boat’d will provide its usual wages contribution in respect of the two weeks ending 28th December and 4th January, provided the local authority meets its proportion of the wages cost.

ELIGIBLE FOR BONUS

Regarding the Christmas bonus payment, this will be made to the following classes of workers who were actually on relief or eligible therefor in the week ending 7th December, 1934, and who have been in receipt of relief under any of the Unemployment Board schemes for a period or periods totalling not less than thirteen weeks during the previous 12 months: ia) Scheme workers employed on a rationed basis —that is, less than 40 hours per week; (b) men in receipt of sustenance without work; (c) clerical workers employed in bureaux, local, body offices, relief depots, etc., who are in receipt of not more than £2 10s per week in the case of married men and 37s 6d per -week in the case of single men; (d) workers employed under Schemes 4c and 4d. The bonus payable to men in receipt of sustenance will be the same as that payable to Scheme 5 workers of similar conjugal and will not be the amount of the usual' weekly sustenance payment. In cases where local employing authorities receive a subsidy from the unemployment fund in respect of the wages of workers employed for full time (40 hours per week or more) at standard rates of pay, the special Christmas cash grant w’ill not apply. Similarly, the Christmas bonus will not be payable to those men empoled under Schemes 4a, 4b, 7, and 11, and those in receipt of sustenance under the small farm plan.
