HOME WORK
(A modern schoolgirl protests against an old-time institution). A criminal institution for the youthful constitution Is this dealing out of home work every day. It’s a practice most appalling, and an urgent need is calling That the thing should be abolished straight away. As with natural jubilation and with unsuppressed elation, We come bounding from the classrooms full of fun, There comes with swift dejection, sad and sudden recollection Of the home-work for the morrow to be done. Though knowledge is a blessing to the few its joys possessing (And we view them from afar with great esteem!), We’re sure they’ll never doubt it that we’re happier without it, And we’ll welcome in with joy a new regime.
