WAITOMO ELECTORATE
MR BROADFOOT RETAINS SEAT. FIGURES FROM ALL POLLING BOOTHS. CONTINUANCE WINS BY SOLID MARGIN. Following are the results of voting at all polling booths throughout; the Waitomo electorate, last Wednesday, for the Parliamentary candidates and licensing issues. They have, of course, not been officially checked, but may be taken as fairly indicating the position at each booth. At Te Awamutu, Te Kuiti, and Otorohanga' voting proceeded briskly ali day, and in some of the other centres solid voting resulted. Inquiry goes to show that adequate provision was made at each booth, and the chief returning officer, Mr J. D. Kerr, of Te Kuiti, is to be complimented upon his thoroughness and upon his choice of deputies and poll clerks. At Te Awamutu provision was made for a double booth at the Town l Hall, and the results were in striking contrast to what happened at the last municipal elections, when the voting was so heavy that it quite congested the single booth. i The first returns started to come in at about 7.25 p.m.—the first to reach Te Awamutu was from Parawera—and as time went on Mr Broadfoot's majority steadily mounted, and at 9.30 p.m. it was clear that he was winning by a substantial majority. The total number of votes recorded by the candidates was 9271 out of a total roll number of 10,937 voters, so the poll can be counted as a heavy one. . The final results were announced as follows: BROADFOOT, W. J. ..„ 4286 JONES, J < ... „ 2718 PENNIKET, J. H , 2267 Majority for Broadfoot - 1568
