MOTOR AMBULANCES BROUGHT UNDER LICENSING SYSTEM.
Section 30 of the Transport Law Amendment. Act, 1933, states: —“(1) If at any time the Governor General in Council is satisfied that persons are being carried by motor vehicle in such a manner as in effect to constitute a regular public service, he may, whether or not persons are being so transported for hire or reward of any kind, declare such manner of transport to be carrying-on of a pasenger service within the meaning of the principal Act, and thereupon it shall be unlawful for any person in any part of New Zealand so to transport passengers, save pursuant to the authority and in conformity with the terms of a passenger service license granted under Part II of that Act.” In effect, all ambulances, free or otherwise, must in future apply for and obtain a license under the provision of the Transport Licensing Act,
1931, in order to continue. This lias been provided for by notice in the Gazette dated October 15th as follows: Order in Council: At the Government House at Wellington, this 15tli day of October, 1934. Present: His Excellency the Governor - General in Council. Pursuant to section thirty of the Transport Law Amendment Act, 1933, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, and being satisfied that persons are being carried by motor vehicle to the extent hereinafter described in such a manner as in effect to constitute a regular public service, doth hereby declare the following manner of transport, that is to say, the carriage by motor vehicle of patients to or from public or private hospitals in such a manner as in effect to constitute a regular public service, to be the carying-on of a passenger service within the meaning of the Transport Licensing Act, 1931.
