NEW BEDS FOR OLD
A MODERN TRANSFORMATION I must tell you about a bedroom I saw this week (says “Madelon,” in this month's “Australian Journal”). It was designed on such modern and unique lines that I thought it very :V costly until'l was shown the secret. The bed was the most interesting. It was ho more than a mattress on short lCg§. It had no font rails, but allowed £he quilt to fall all round to within-half an inch of the floor. The back an'i oval-shaped piece pf ordinary half-inch •ijgine with a flat base. 'This fitted on the wall, where it was-plugged, so that the base was level with the iron of the mattress, anil the oval looked like the back of an ultra-modern piece of furniture. • The woodwork was enamelled a dull pink, with appliqued motifs in small ciircies, done iii old rose and touched up by old paint. The floor was stained, with two crocheted rugs in matching colours! Curtains of sunproof; ..dark pink net! Walls‘tinted ; <a soft, jale mauve, almost grey! The. dressing-table was another halfcircle of wood, enamelled to match, and hinged to the wall, with an old mirror, re-framed, hung above it. Try it some time and see what a transformation you make.
