COUNTY BY-ELECTION

MR JOS. GRAHAM ELECTED FOR KAIPAKI. The by-election in the Kaipaki riding of Waipa County for the return of one member in succession to the late Mr Robert Speake was held yesterday, and a fairly keen interest was displayed by ratepayers in the riding. The result gave a comfortable majority to Mr .R. J. Graham, of Kaipaki, over his opponent, Mr E. J. Edwards, of Ohaupo. The final figures were, we understand, as under: — At Ohaupo booth: Edwards 61, Graham 52. At Kaipaki booth: Edwards 8, Graham 46. Totals: Edwards 69, Graham 98. Subject to everything being in order, Mr Graham will be declared elected. He is a well-known farmer in the Kaipaki district, and is sure of a warm welcome from his fellow councillors.
