THE COUGH WHICH 'FLU LEAVES BEHIND.
Warm inhalations will give relief. The compound tincture of benzoin, popularly known as Friar’s balsam, is one of the most soothing balsams. Add a teaspoonful to a pint of hot water at 150 degrees F., and inhale the vapour. Don’t use boiling water —too hot steam will irritate rather than soothe the inflamed membranes. A last-thing inhalation just before trying to get off to sleep is most desirable. To reinforce the value of Uie inhalations, paint the throat three times a day with glycerine of tannic acid. The fimd painting is best done threequarters of an hour before bedtime. An alternative more modern and consequently more expensive is to use collosal argentum in an all-glass atomiser, and spray it upon the back of the throat. Some of us feel unhappy unless we have performed our daily “gargle.” A capital solution that has special influence upon the after-’flu cough can be made up out of tincture of krameriaem, tincture of myrrh, tinqture of conchona, tincture of kino, half an ounce of each. Add a teaspoonful to an ounce of water for the gar’gle. Should the cough worry you after you have tried all these measures, a little sedative cough medicine may be expedient. A good one is the syrup of cocillana compound.
