GENERAL.
WISE ADVICE FOR BARG AIN-
HUNTERS.
Don’t sit down and bemoan the fact that your curtains have shruink, your bedspread has faded, and your sheets look the worse for wear'! These matters can be put right—even if you haven’t much money to spend—by a few judicious purchases at the sales.
For instance, buy some odd strips of carpets at the sales, fringe them with ends of wool, and you’ll have a charming new set of rugs. Do take particular notice that I suggest you make a few “ judicious purchases.” At the sales it is possible to lose much more than you gain by being tempted to buy things that you don’t really need, just because the price is low. No article is cheap unless you, have a definite use for -it.
IRemember that the biggest bargains are usually to be found in the best shops, for they generally clear their stock out more drastically than the smaller shops can afford to do. This being so, don’t hesitate to visit the more expensive stores which you consider beyond your purse during the rest of the year.
Before you go to the sales make a list of the things you need, and, at the same time, put down particulars of lengths of material which would be useful in your home. This is important, for, however nice a remnant may be, if it is six inches too short for your requirements it will be useless.
And do take a pattern when you are matching anything, for it is almost impossible to carry an exact shade in your mind’s eye.
