ANGRY EEL
BITES MAN’S FINGER. In an encounter with an eel on the Great Barrier Reef, Captain D. T. Williams, master of the tourist liner Ulysses, which reached Sydney a few days ago, came off second best. A neat leather finger-stall on the middle finger of his right hand was the tell-tale mark of the episode. Captain Williams, together with a party of tourists, was examining Low Island, when they came across several long conger eels. Captain Williams grabbed one 1-g one to show the tourists, just as it. was getting into a crevice of the rock, but the eel retaliated by fastening its needle-like teeth into the captain’s finger. The wound had to receive considerable attention.
