A JUDGE AND POLICE METHOD,
Expressing dissatisfaction with the methods of medical examination of motorists detained by the police on suspicion of being under the influence of drink, Mr Justice Swift, presiding at Liverpool assizes, said: “ The police are entitled to ask a doctor to come and observe a man they have in the cells, but they have no righjtl whatever to put him through tests unless he consents. If they say he was so drunk that he did not know what he was doing, then they ha Ye no business to put him through tests. I object to these inroads on British freedom, and the police have no right to apply tests to a man like the prisoner without his consent. If they say he is able to give consent, then they have no business to come here and say he is drunk, because
