DAIRY BOARD CHAIRMAN
TRIBUTE TO NEW ZEALAND DELEGATES LONDON, Aug. 5. Mr W. A. lorns, chairman of the New Zealand Dairy Produce Beard, who is in London and who was in -close touch, with the Prime Minister and Mr Masters, had a warm tribute to pay to the way in which they h,ad worked in the interests of New Zealand. "Our delegates were in a very awkward position," said Mr lorns. "British farmers were pressing for restrictions, and had very great -political strength behind their movement. New Zealand was undoubt-edly.-fortunate in having Mr Forbes and Mr Masters in England as they thoroughly understood the importance of the dairy industry to the Dominion, and also they are person*aill conversant with the industry itself, while, of course, their high position in Dominion affairs gave every strength to their representations. "I* is of paramount impoiftance that New Zealand should have no restriction on her imports into BritS am—and Mr Forbes and Mr Masters did not recede for a moment from this attitude. They had to show that for the dairy industry of New Zealand to remain unfettered -in output was of more importance to the Dominion than the quota ; would *lbe to British farmers. "I am sure that the farmers .of New Zealand.will always appreciate Mid value the splendid stand, difficult though the task was, which the Prime Minister and Mr Masters made to safeguard their srital inter■ests. I can say from personal knowledge that they spent m'any.
long hours doing their utmost in the interest of our farmers. Their work was invaluable'to us."
