Between one and two o'clock on Thursday morning a destructive fire completely destroyed the homestead of Mrs J. Dailey, of Kio Eo Road. The house was occupied by Mrs Daiiley, her daughter, and Mr Klein, a guest. When awakened by the smoke and glare, the occupants made la hurried exit, saving only a few articles. The insurances are not yet available.
Despite the very unpleasant conditions on Saturday, Rugby enthusiasts witnessed some very good play. Results: Seniors.—United 8 v. Old Boys 0; Otewa 6 v. Kfio Kic 3. Juniors.— Honikiwi 8 v. Otorohlanga 3; United 3 v. Old Boys 3. A local sportsman, Mr H. Maxwell, had the misfortune last week to lose his valuable racehorse, Rita's Light, a very promising galloper. A party of nine local territorials journeyed to Auckland to take part in the trooping 'cf the colours on His Majesty's Birthday. A very severe thunderstorm passed over Otorohanga last Friday afternoon. Quite la number of electric light bulbs fused, causing great inconvenience to householders.
Mrs Frank Nathan, of Gisborne, is visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs It. A. Atkfinson.
Mir and Mrs J. Snell, of Matamata, are visitfng Mrs Snell's bother, Mr A. Briggs.
