A very large mob of cattle passed through here last week, en route to the Wanganui district. 'Mr Frank Finch, late town clerk of Birkenhead, has been appointed clerk to the Otorohanga Town Board. Mr Finch is 50 years of- age, and was selected from a very large number of applicants. Mr Clive Tucker had held the position for the past 12h years, and has now commenced business on his own account. The other officials have all been re-ap-pointed under new schedule of duties. Two additional ushers have been engaged for the picture theatre. The Jocal tennis club's championship singles completed on Saturday afternoon resulted:—Ladies' singles: Mrs J. F. Trapski defeated Miss Scarborough 2—6, 6 —l, 6—3. Juniors: Miss Hotson defeated Miss Liddy, 11—6. ' Men's singles: R. D. Ward defeated H. Rhodes, 6—4, 6—3, 6—2. Great local interest was centred in the cricket contest here last Saturday between Retailers and Otorohanga, who were both level in championship polints. Retailers, batting first, scored 240 for 5 wickets, declared. K. Cameron and J. Craig both reached 98. Otorohanga replied with 153 runs for 8 wickets—the game ending in a draw. V. Fairbrother 43, J. Corbett 63, and A. Finlay 27 were their chief scorers. Honikiwi was defeated by the High School staff. Honikiwi scored 84 (L. Arnold 29, H. Arnold 19). School replied with 85 for no wickets (Pilkington 49 not out, B. Hotson 25 not out). Natives defeated Kio Kio, scoring 115 (Hughes 49 retired, H. Hughes 40 retired). Kio Kio compiled 30. Next Saturday Retailers meet Natives; Kio Kio meet High School and Otorohanga meet Honikiwi.

The the euchre contest held in connection with St. Patrick's night ball here, the ladies prize went to Mrs Cockrane, and gentlemen's to Mr Geo. Isaac.

Local, and visiting anglers, report good catches of rainbow trout during the week-end, from the Marakopfa, Waipa and Moakaurura streams.

Despite the fact that the dairy season has passed its peak, twelve tons of butter were manufactured on a recent day at the Otorohanga plant of the N.Z. Dairy Co. Large quantities are also handled here by other concerns.
