REGENT THEATRE.

“THE TIP OFF.”

TO-NIGHT AND WEDNESDAY,

“ The Tip Off,” the rollicking com-edy-drama from the R.K.O. Pathe studio that is expected to pull crowds to the Regent Theatre to-night and tomorrow, was directed by Albert Rogell, who, although he is one of the younger megaphonists. dates his start in the films back in 1916.

Rogell’s guidance of the co-stars, Eddie Quillan and Robert Armstrong, marks his second picture for R.K.O. Pathe. His work on “ Sweepstakes,” the racing melodrama, with Eddie Quillan, won him both the latest assignment and also a long-term contract. He has been in nearly every branch of the business, attaining success lately as an independent producer. His most notable pictures are “ Aloha,” “ Shepherd of . the Hills.” and “ Mamba.” •

“ STEPPING SISTERS.”

THURSDAY AND FRIDAY,

The principal offering-at the Regent Theatre on Thursday and Friday of , this week will be the Fox release, “ Stepping Sisters,” which is heralded as one of the brightest entertainments of a long series of successes. • /The story concerns three ex-burlesque girls who meet after many years, yrhen one of them (Louise Dresser) is-a social climber, another (Jobyna Howland) is a Shakespearean reader, and the third (Minna Gombell) is a sort of hus-band-player-around-with. That’s an ’ unusual designation, but it is an American term that explains itself. Louise Dresser is staging an allegory written by the town’s social leader, . and Howland and Gombell ruin it; by appearing in tights and going through their old burlesque routine.- They do> this to help out Louise Dresser’s, husband (William Collier), who is “fed up ” with his wife’s social antics and hopes to get his household back on a corned beef and cabbage basis. The . show is the high spot of the picture, and includes the presentation of a clever dance number received with applause by every audience where “Stepping Sisters” has been shown. ’ / That it will find equal favour in Te'4lW Awamutu is a certainty. The sup- -A porting subjects aTe again up to the * high standard insisted upon by the- 1 Regent management. ; ’ ■ v ■ 1 tfv/SsV Tv ' ~ 1 ' •*
