Four Rugby contests were played at Otorohanga on Saturday. Otorohanga seniors defeated Old Boys by 6 to nil, and United won a good game from Otewa by 10 to 3. Otorohanga juniors scored a success over United A, by 6 to 5, and Old Boys defeated Honikiwi by a narrow margin. M]r and Mrs Donald Ross, who have recently sold their Kio Kio farm to Mr King, of New Plymouth,, were ffarwelled by the Otorohanga Cricket Club on Saturday night. Mr G. Corbett presided, and there was a large attendance. Eulogistic speeches were made by the chairman, and representatives of local sports clubs, Mr Ross being presented with a substantial wallet, and Mrs Ross with a lady’s handbag. Songs were rendered by Messrs A. Coclcburn and Bolt, and violin items by Messrs Ken Liddy and Anderson.
A contest between the Otorohanga and Pio Pio schools for basketball supremacy eventuated at Te Kuiti on Saturday, ( Otorohanga winning 15 goals to 3. With the advent of spring there will, be an unusually large surplus, over and above early spring requirements, of hay and ensilage for the milking herds.
Paterangi girls visited Otorohanga on Saturday, and engaged the local hockey team, resulting in a win for the visitors by 5 goals to 2. Mr Spiers refereed a very fine game. Playing in the qualifying round of the Otorohanga golf championship on Saturday, the following were the best scores handed in:—Craig, 78; G. S. Fry, 81; Pilkinton, 84; Me Robie, 85; Hotson, 86; K. Liddy, 88; B. Hotson, 92; S. J. Forteseue, 94; Johnson, 94; N. Smith, 99; Irvine, 99; Stranger, 94.
