DISTRICT HONOURED

VISIT OF PROMINENT SCOTTISH DIVINE. An unexpected and much appreciated visitor to this district is the Rev. Br Lauchlan Mac Lean Watt, the well known Scottish preacher and writer, and Minister oil Glasgow Cathedral. Dr Mac Lean Watt has just completed a three months' preaching appointment at Scots Church, Melbourne. He is one of the many distinguished preachers from overseas which the Turnbull Trust enables that city to. have from year to year. He arwyed last week in New Zealand in the course of his return journey to Scotland, and is visiting relatives in the Waikato. (Mrs John Budge, of iiio Kio, is an aunt of his). On Tuesday night he agreed to speak to the St. Andrew's Bible Class, and a full church of young people and older members of the congregation at short notice gathered to hear him. , ui >< Mac Lean Watt was introduced by RevAlan C. Whitelaw, who spoke of the unexpected privilege of this visit and service. It was a great honour'to ie Awamutu and the Presbyterians oi the whole district. Conducting the service, Dr Mac Lean Watt read the 35th Chaptet* oi Isaiah, which he described as -same of the purest and most musical h'-ear-ture in the world. Rarely had his hearers listened to such an exposition —so rich in imagery and practical application. Dr Watt, in his address, spoke of the glorious faith which naci been entrusted to this generation, a faith for which their fathers had been prepared to die. Eighteen thousand graves are scattered throughout Scotland oil those Covenanters who gave their all for faith and liberty. Their courage and faith even unto death was needed to-day. The world needs the same gospel which is capable of lifting men and women out of the most foul and degraded lives into pure and noble living, and capable also of inspiring like deeds ot heroism. The Cross was snll the power of God unto a world's salvation; He appealed for a living personal saCrifical faith in Jesus Christ. The address was full of apt illustrations, drawn from the wealth of tne speaker's travel and experience. y.
