MANGAPIKO DANCE
TENNIS DANCE FUNCTION. (Own Correspondents On Friday night last the Mangapiko Tennis Club held a most successful social evening and dance, it being one of the most enjoyable evenings ever held in the district. Much credit is due to the club's committee for the way in which the function was organised, there being no dull moments. . Mr W. Bent, the club's president, made a very neat speech, outlining the club's activities during the past season and thanking all in the district for the support they had given the club, special mention being made of those who donated trophies for competition. Mr C. M. Alexander, the club's patron, in a few well chosen sentences expressed his satisfaction at the able manner in which the club had conducted its season. Special thanks being due to the energetic secretary, Miss R. Ellis. The various trophies were then presented, the winners being as follows : _Ladies' singles, Miss M. Alexander; ladies' doubles, Miss A. Ellis and Miss M. Alexander; Men's singles, Mr L. Mills; Men's Doubles, Messrs L. and S. Mills; combined doubles, Miss F. Alexander and Mr A. Coster. During the evening much appreciated items were given by the following:—Elecutionarv items, Miss Wrnthrop (Auckland); pianoforte duet, Mrs Cutforth and Miss Fitness. Dance extras were in the capable hands of Mr H. Bent and Mr R. Mr G. Ellis very capably filled the position of M.C. The president, on behalf of the club, then took the opportunity of presenting to Miss G. Coster (who is leaving the district) a small token of her clubmates' esteem, at the same time expressing their hope that her absence wouM not be a permanent one. Mr A. Coster, on behalf of his sister, suitably responded.
