HELP FOR THE CAMPS
PUBLIC SYMPATHY ACCEPTABLE. Many calls are made by the Government through taxation and by special appeals, which are not made public, upon business men and upon those who are employed, but even with a knowledge of these calls we still say that those who can give should do so to provide a recreation centre for the single men in camp.- It is a fact that when men in large groups are in camp they become more or less helpless unless there is some organisation which will improve the conditions and the spirit of the campers to an extent which will show the expenditure involved to be very small indeed. This is an opportunity for a practical demonstration of public sympathy, and when we remember that every man and woman who is employed today, however much the salaries may have been reduced, must count himself or herself fortunate, we think that a little can be spared to build the sum required for this scheme. — The Southland Times.
