CHILD RUN OVER
FATAL INJURIES SUSTAINED. (By Telegraph. Press Association.) PUTARURU, Monday. A fatal accident occurred on the Arapuni Road, Putaruru, yesterday afternoon, resulting in the death of Robert Charles Drummond, aged f years. Deceased was the eldest son of Mr Leslie Drummond, public accountant, Putaruru. The boy was playing on the footpath with several other children near the home of Mrs Smith, where his parents were visiting. It is surmised that he did not notice two cars approaching, and as soon as one had passed he attempted to cross the road. The second car. 1 which was driven by Miss Girmour, of Waihi, was close behind the other vehicle, and struck the boy, throwing him heavily on to the road.
Deceased's injuries consisted of two broken arms, a fractured skull and internal injuries. He expired one hour after the accident without regaining consciousness.
An inquest was opened this morning, and after evidence of identification was taken was adjourned sine die.
