PEPPER IN THEATRE
SHOWER FROM VENTILATOR. (By Telegraph. Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Monday. A young man's action in showering a pound of pepper into a picture theatre from a ventilator was recounted in the Stratford Court to-day, when Charles John Parsons was fined £1 with 10s costs by Mr R. W. Tate, S.M. A police sergeant said that Parsons, on the evening of the offence, bought one pound of pepper at a store, and at 9.30 climbed on to the roof of the Tangarakau theatre and emptied the pepper down a ventilator. The result was that several members of the audience had to leave the hall. Parsons was discovered on the roof and on being questioned said he had overdone it, as he did not intend to release all the pepper. He expressed regret at having done it, his only reason for his action being that some of his mates had dared him to do it, and he had done so out of bravado.
