NEW BUILDINGS
FARMERS' INSTITUTE ENTERPRISE.
At a meeting of the directors of the Te Awamutu Farmers' Institute, it has been decided to proceed, as early in the New Year as possible, with the erection of a modern block of shops fronting on to Alexandra Street. The immediate planning is for four shops, details of planning however, being still under consideration.
In Institute property is almost directly opposite Armstrong's Buildings and has a frontage of 62 feet to Alexandra Street. As a first step the dwelling, which formerly housed the Institute, will be shifted back to the Mahoe Street frontage and this dwelling will be modernised. The shop buildings will be modern in every respect, embodying the latest devices for ventilation and lighting. It will be an imposing structure and a most worthy addition to the town's main thoroughfare. The chairman of the Institute (Mr S. C. Macky) has been delegated by the directors to finalise arrangements and it is anticipated that the work will be proceeded with early in the New Year.
