FORCED LANDING
AEROPLANE ENGINE FAILS. (By Telegraph. Press Association.) HAMILTON, Monday. A successful forced landing was made at Morrinsville on Saturday afternoon by a Gypsy Moth aeroplane owned and piloted by Mr M. A. Scott, of Hamilton. Mr Scott had flown the machine from Hobsonville to Te Rapa in the morning, and left Te Rapa at 2.30 p.m. to fly to Athenree, near Waihi, for a week-end’s fishing. Mr Scott had as passenger Mr M. Maning, of Hamilton. Everything went well until Morrinsville was reached and then the engine suddenly failed. Mr Scott was flying at a height of 2000 feet, and he volplaned down and made a good landing alongside a fence in a paddock near the old Lockerbie homestead, a mile to the north of Morrinsville. No damage was done to the aeroplane and the occupants escaped unhurt. The machine was brought into Hamilton, by-road- yesterday, and Messrs Scott' and Manning resumed their journey, to Athenree by car. Extensive repairs are required to be made to the engine of the aeroplane.
