END OF SCHOOL YEAR

TE MAWHAI DISTRICT CELEBRATES. The annual fancy dress dance, held to mark the end of the school year at Te Mawhai, took place on Friday last, and was a great success. The hall was beautifully decorated, and presented a very festive scene. The attendance was a record in the history of the distinct; never previously has any function attracted such an assembly, and the space of the hall was taxed to its capacity. Supper, provided by the ladies of the district, was in keeping with the other arrangements, evidencing the extensive preparations made. It was in every way a notable district event.

Dancing and games commenced early in the evening, and the time passed all too quickly. Prior to the supper adjournment Mr J. Murtagh, chairman of the School Committee, congratulated Mr Ching (headmaster) and Mrs Sinclair (assistant) for the record of the scholars at the recent term examinations. He then proceeded to present the certificates and prizes won during the year at the school.
