TELEGRAPH CHIEF TO ACT AS MANAGER. (By Telegraph. Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Monday. Arrangements have been made for Mr E. C. Hands, principal of the Telegraph Division, G.P.0., to act in the capacity of general manager of the New Zealand Broadcasting Board until further notice, according to a statement made by the chairman of the board, Mr H. D. Vickery, on Saturday. Mr Vickery added that the Post-master-General, Hon. A. Hamilton, had indicated his intention of assisting the board in every possible way during its first few difficult months. In addition to Mr Hands the services of other officers of the Post and Telegraph Department would be placed at the disposal of the board when required. Mr Vickery added that the appointment of the board so close to the holidays had made matters a little difficult, but with the kindly co-opera-tion of Mr Hamilton and his department, a smooth service throughout January would be assured. Mr E. C. Hands has been in the service of the Post and Telegraph Department for approximately 22 years. Prior to joining the department he had seven years with the Pacific Cable Board. Before 1928 he filled the position of supervisor of the telegraph office in Wellington. Mr glands has been principal of the telegraph division, G.P.0., for the past two years. His work in that division has brought him into close touch with broadcasting, particularly in regard to the licensing and regulation aspects of the service.
