News has been received in Tokyo that Charlie Chaplin, the film artist, known in Japan as Cha pu rin, will visit Japan on his way to Los Angeles. The visit will be especially welcome to American film importers, who have suffered since the advent of the “ talkies.” Sales of American films decreased sharply when the silent pictures disappeared. Representatives of the American companies believe that Charlie Chaplin will revive interest in their films generally. In its campaign to increase the efficiency of the forces fighting crime, Northwestern University (Chicago) will conduct a course in “ scientific methods of crime detection.” Law enforcement officers and others interested will be admitted to the course.
