IN WAIPA COUNTY.

ENGINEER’S REPORT. The following report of work done since last meeting was submitted by Mr J. W. Civil (county engineer) at Monday’s meeting of Waipa County Council: — RANGIAOHIA RIDING. Great South Road, main highway, Te Awamutu-Hamilton Road: 85 cubic yards of metal chips have been used in repairs to this road. t Lake Road: Repairs have been carried out to portion of this road. , Te Awamutu-Cambridge main highway: Grading and surface work have Been done on this road. i Chamberlain’s Road: The contractor has graded this road, and will finish the work to-morrow, when claying a portion of the swamp will be underORAKAU RIDING. Great South Road, main highway, Te Awamutu-Puniu bridge: A contract has been let f<?r scooping, carting, and stacking 500 yards of Puniu River gravel at 3s 6d per yard; the contractor has made good progress, and the work should be completed in a few days’ time. Grading by motor grader has been carried out.

/ Kihikihi-Arapuni main highway: The contractor has completed his contract of scooping and stacking 300 yards of Puniu River gravel at Brotherhood’s. '

The contractors for scooping, carting, and dumping 500 yards of gravel at 3s 3d per yard have the work well in hand.

Re-surfacing has been carried out with 260 yards of crushed metal between the 13 and 14-mile posts; and other repairs have been done.

Grading has been effected by the motor and horse graders. Work has been laid off for widening dangerous corners and improving the alignment at Brett’s hill, and the work is being done by unemployed labour.

Akaterere Road grant, £1 for £1: The 35 chains of new formation have been surfaced with 600 yards of gravel from the Council’s pit.

Waiteti Road grant, £1 for £1: The contract for forming 39i chains of drain *is completed, and 40 chains of 24-foot formation is also finished. I expect to have the whole length of this road, 68 chains, gravelled this week.

Te Ana Road grant, £1 for £1: The contract for forming and widening 408 chains offroad is well under way, and will probably be completed this wdek..

Owairaka Valley JRoad extension grant; £2BOO, £1 for £1: Both contracts have been completed for extension of the metalled road to Rotongata Road junction; this completes the whole work and expenditure of loan and grant.

Maintenance shingle has been carted and spread over a 7-mile length. Moncton’s Road grant, £1 for £1: An engineering survey has been made of a mile of this road. ( MANGAPIKO RIDING.

Ham’s to Teddy’s Road grant, £1 for £1: The work of forming and filling 461 chains of 20-foot road has been completed, and the concrete culverts required have been placed in position. Sing’s Road: The formation laid off on this road has been completed, and if it can be sanded the formation will keep in proper shape. Bell’s Road: Portion of this road has been graded by the road plant, but unfess a portion is sanded the work will not be of much advantage to Mr Bell this winter. The road serves only Mr Bell, and is about 40 chains in length, and as the whole requires to be formed to better grades, etc., I would suggest that application be made for a grant of £SO, £1 for £l, on next year’s estimate. KAKEPUKU RIDING.

Great South Road, main highway, section 4, Puniu bridge to the county boundary: The contract for scooping and stacking 400 yards of gravel is practically completed. Te Awamutu-Burton’s corner: I am arranging if possible to start scooping gravel. at Kopu this week if the water is low enough. Work has been laid off for widening a dangerous part of the road fronting Rickit’s farm, .and the work is being undertaken by unemployed labour. GENERAL. A contract for the erection of a bungalow on the Council’s section in Roche Street was let to Mr Powell at £565, and he will start work this week. Fiftten tenders, varying from £565 to £775, were received for the work.
