SUBSIDISING RATES

MATAMATA COUNTY'S PRO-

POSAL. - . At Monday's meeting of the Waipa. tj County Council the following resolu- s| tion was presented from the Mata- $ mata County Council with a request £* for supnort:— t*-, (1) That the present system of sub- |ii sidising local bodies rates be abol- , ,'J ished. (Note. —This subsidy is now | paid out of petrol tax funds, but has - ->| no direct relationship to roading ex- ' || penditure). (2) That the Mahl I Highway system be revised so as to . include only roads of national import- •/ ance. ' (3' That a roading fund to '||| include all petrol tax, tyre tax, license fees, heavy traffic fees, and other -'M moneys of similar nature be utilised M for financing the Main Highways Ml Board and subsidising local bodies proportion to their annual expendi- u 6 ture on all road works, including' - principal and interest on loans..
