SUCCESSFUL PICNIC

RAILWAYMEN AND CARRIERS. SUCCESSFUL ANNUAL GATHER--7 ING. Annually the local and district carriers and railwaymen promote a picnic, usually held on Mr Joe Ormsby's pleasantly-situated property on the Pirongia-Kawhia Road, and the one that eventuated last week-end was in every respect as successful as any of its predecessors. The day was bright and fine, the picnic ground almost ideal for the purpose, the management thorough, and the sports events keenly contested.- Several hundred friends were conveyed to the grounds by the carriers and in private cars, and by 11 a.m. the assembly was enjoying the sport—pedestrian events, bathing, etc.—to the full. The many keen contests in all forms of sport were very gratifying to the spectators, and all competitors accepted the handicaps and judges' placing in the right spirit. The Ormsby. Cup had attracted a,record entry of 24, and the heats and final were real thrills. The ultimate winner well deserved his success. Mr Annibal went on to thank Mr Ormsby for so generously making his pretty grounds again available for the picnic, and assured him of the executive's keen appreciation. The principal trophies —three beautiful cups were handed over, the respective winners being heartily congratulated, and then cheers were given for Mr Ormsby and for the donors of trophies.
