WORK OF THE MONTH

IN WAIPA COUNTY.

ENGINEER’S REPORT,

The following; report of work done since last meeting was submitted by the engineer (Mr J. W. Civil) at Monday’s meeting of the Waipa County Council:— NEWCASTLE RIDING.

Great South Road, M.H.—Grading has been carried out by both motor and horse graders. Ngaruawahia to Whatawhata Road. Some 7l4cyds. of sand have been carted from Nieol’s pit by Fogarty and Sutherland with County plant and metal top-dressed with some from Clow’s to Marwood’s Junction; also 240cyds. of sand from Blackett’s pit, and road top-dressed from Martin’s back to junction of Blackett’s Road. Some 388cyds. sand have been carted from Blackett’s pit into Blackett’s and Finlayson’s Roads by Fogarty and Sutherland. Newcastle and Hamilton Riding Boundary Road.—l have gone into the matter re gully on unformed portion of this road to be dealt with, adjoining Lee’s and Zimmerman’s (Exelby’s) properties. This outlet drains some 1500 acres, being one of the Te Rapa Drainage Board’s main outlet drains, and would mean a large culvert and heavy earthworks to get even a one in ten grade, as the forming of this road will not only link up settlers on northern end of this road but will link up Burbush’s Road. I would suggest that two small deviations be made in this line of road, effecting Lee’s and Zimmerman’s properties, which will improve alignment and grades. The owners, I think would agree to same, then could arrange to get Government subsidy at a later date for carrying out the work.
