disposition of the secretary, Mr J. G. Wynyard, and hoped he would soon /"■be restored to health. Mr L. Johnston was undertaking the secretarial duties of the meeting on behalf of Mr Wynyard. The annual report of the president was read as follows: "In presenting the tenth annual balance-sheet, which shows a loss of £24 3s Id for the year, I would call attention to the fact that unfortunate circumstances affected the attendance at the last show; and this fact, together with the increase of prize money offered, was mainly responsible for the financial result. The show in all respects was equal to previous shows, and in several of the classes, notably in sheep, there were increased entries. The quality of the stock was favourably commented on, and the show, besides being of educational value, was a splendid advertisement of the capabilities of the dis-

trict. With several proposed improve- * ments in view, the members may look forward to a successful show during the coming season." The balance-sheet as at 31st March *• showed assets totalling £359 19s, made Up of show yards worth £173 (after allowing £9 10s as depreciation, Post * Office Savings Bank £l5O, debtors £32 19s, and cash in hand £4. As liabilities there were: Donations £251 ss, creditors 16s, bank £l7 6s 7d, and £9O Is 5d in the profit and loss account, made up of balance at Ist April, 1929, £ll4 4s Gd, less £24 3s Id balance for the 1929-30 year. On the expenditure side prize money accounted for £320 2s Gd, wages and salaries £59 17s 6d, printing and advertising £55 2s, general expenses £32 lis Id, refreshments £2O 2s, judges' expenses £l6 10s lOd. smoke concert expenses £l6 2s, ribbons £ls, domain rental £l2 10s, repairs and' maintenance £9 8s K lOd. Other smaller items included bad debts written off, freight and cartage, tent hire,. Municipal Band, ""-and depreciation written off. Explaining the balance sheet, Mr Johnson said show day following the visit of Wirth's Circus probably affected the gate receipts, but greater still was the test cricket match at Auckland, which attracted several of the regular patrons. The prize money offered last year was more than the previous year, and this was a step in the right direction, for it attracted first class stock from other districts. The sheep section was a very great improvement on any previous show, and the quality of the Southdowns and Romneys was excellent. The success of the sheep section especially was due to Mr E. G. Humphrey for his untiring enthusiasm and work. The sheep were a big attraction tc the show. In the horticultural and home industries sections there were splendid entries, and this was largely due to the ladies'committee. The association was extremely fortunate in having such a capable committee of ladies. Several of the members had also given freely of their time, money #nd enthusiasm, and he hoped they would maintain their interest. Messrs Maxwell and Wilson's donation of carting was a big help to the assiciation.

Mr Hamilton Allen said he would ~again voice the opinion that the number of members could easily be increased. By doing so the association's funds would be assisted, and j many new workers would be gained. Mr Mandeno referred to the loss incurred over the smoke concert, and agreed with the committee's recommendation not to hold another function of this kind after the show. Mr Johnson referred to the need for more accommodation for the horticultural and home industries section. It was a very great attraction and should be fostered. Mr Mandeno agreed, and said the children had prepared a very fine exhabit, and it was found impossible to adequately stage this. He thought every effort should be .made to encourage the juveniles. The report and balance sheet were then adopted unanimously. Messrs F. Mansel, J. Baxter and S. Harris were elected_members of the association. The election of officers was then proceeded with and resulted: Patron, Mr W. G. Park (re-elected, amid ap-

The vote was seconded with acclamation. , The date of the next annual show

was fixed for Wednesday, 18th February, 1981. The new president said he had been making investigations from other associations with the object of making the local show more attractive, and he had prepared a lev/ in the ring competitions, including high jump, ladies' hunter, pony hunter (14.2 and over 12.2 hands, to jump four nights of 3ft hurdles), pony hunter, and tradesmen's turnout. He thought the inclusion of these classes would be Avell warranted. Mr J. T. Johnson favoured most of the classes suggested and they were referred to the schedule committee for consideration. Mr G. Hall referred to the old committee's recommendation to ask the Domain Board to provide better facilities for watering stock on show days. —Referred to new executive. Mr H. Allen referred to the need for even more publicity in the matter of notifying the attractions of the show. He thought at least one of the illustrated journals should be approached to send a photographer to the next show. Mr Mandeno asked if there was any prospect of the long needed grandstand at Albert Park being provided, but the opinion of the meeting was not very hopeful. Mr E. G. Humphrey was accorded a special vote of thanks for his special help to the association in caring for and storing material, equipment, etc., and for his great help, especially at show time.
