STUDY OF AGRICULTURE
SIR. J. GUNSON SCHOLARSHIP.
AUCKLAND, This Day.
The first award of the Sir James Gunson scholarship in agriculture was made by the Auckland University College Council yesterday, when it was decided to grant the scholarship to Mr L. H. Briggs, who is at present carrying out research work in organic chemistry, and who will go to Massey College. The scholarship, a post graduate one, was made available by Sir James Gunson by transferring to the College Council a gift of £I3OO made to him by the city on his relinquishing office as Mayor. A subsidy of pound for pound was obtained from ihe Government, and the accrued capital is now well over £3OOO. The scholarship was founded for the purpose of. enabling a graduate to investigate one or more problems connected with the agricultural or dairying industries. It is to be offered every fourth year. Having an annual value of £250, it will be tenable for two years.
