ELSIE WALKER CASE
SCOPE OF THE INQUIRY.
POWERS OF COMMISSIONER

The Minister of Justice, the Hon. T. M. Wilford, when questioned regarding the scope of the inquiry into methods followed in the Elsie Walker case, informed a newspaper correspondent that the order of reference for submission to the Executive Council has been completed and waits approval by the Executive Council, pending which it is not available for publication. The inquiry is to be conducted under the Commissions of Inquiry Act, which gives full power to the Commissioner to take evidence on oath, demand the presence of witnesses, and the production of papers, also to award costs against any parts if deemed desirable.
The commission is empowered by Statute to refer to the Supreme Court for interpretation of any law points which may arise as the result of its investigation.
