ELECTION ADDRESSES

IN WAITOMO AND RAGLAN. Mr Rolleston speaks at Wharepuhunga, Ngaroma and Pokuru on Friday next. Mr Lae Martin speaks at Paterangi this evening. The address by Mr Rolleston at Te Mawhai this evening is timed for 8.30. Mr W. J. Broadfoot speaks at Tokanui Crossrtoads this evening. The United Party’s candidate, Mr W. J. Broadfoot, had a very successful meeting at Kihikihi on Thursday night . There were over 100 present. At the termination of the address a hearty vote of thanks a,nd confidence was carried unanimously. A questioner asked if it was right for the Government to auction rural lands in preference to the old system of balloting. The candidate stated that farming lands had only one value—that based on production. When this was fixed the land should be balloted for, and not forced up to fictitious, non-productive prices by auction. A long list of other questions were asked and replied to satisfactorily.

MR ROLLESTON IN KAWHIA DISTRICT. During the past few days Mr J. C. Rolleston has been speaking in Kawhia district. At a meeting at Awaroa he met the settlers from Hauturu and Kauri Valley. On Monday evening a large and representative attendance at Kawhia was presided over by Mr Jonathan, chairman of the Town Board. A number of questions wore asked, after wjhich a vote of thanks was carried by acclamation. On Thursday evening Mr Rolleston addressed a well-attended meeting at Opara,u, Mr Sandelins, riding member of the County Council, taking the chair. In introducing Mr Rolleston he made reference to the active manner in which the candidate had helped the Council in do-operation with Mr D. S. Reid, mejmber for Waikato. After having (answered a number of questions a vote of thanks and confidence was proposed by Mr G. McKenzie, and seconded by Mr R&atson. The latter also endorsed the chairman’s; opening remarks with regard to the hard work Mr Rolleston had done for the district. The motion was carried unanimously. A further meeting was held at Te Rau-a-Moa. Mr Hogarth presided. A number of questions were asked and answered satisfactorily.

Mr BROADFOOT’S CAMPAIGN. The United Party candidate, Mr W. J. Broadfoot, held a meeting at Te Kawa on Friday morning. The attendance was good and the speaker was given an excellent reception. The usual questions were answered satisfactorily the speaker being given a hearty vote of thanks and confidence. Mr Scholes was'in the chair. At Te Mawhai a g\ood audience assembled and interest was held throughout by the speaker. Expressions of goodwill were extended to the speaker for his able and instructive address. Mir A. Hanna Was in the chair. In the evening, at Pokuru, Mr Broadfoot again addressed the electors.. Mr B. H. Budden was voted to the chair. The audience gireeted the candidate by singing “For He’s a Jolly Gbod Fellow.” At the close of the meeting a resolution of. thanks and confidence was carried with enthusiasm. The proposer, Mr McVerry, indicated that the address was the ablest political exposition he had heard in the last 20 years:*! Mr J. Corboy seconded. ~ •
