A COMPLIMENTARY SOCIAL. ' (Own Correspondent.) A very successful complimentary social tendered by the married ladies to the remainder of thej settlers was held in the )ceal hall on-Wednesday evening. The committee was untiring in its efforts to make the entertainment worthy of the occasion, and the success it undoubtedly was. Artistic-ally-arranged decorations transformed the hall. Tangerine, streamers, relieved with black, were hung from the Avails, and drooped gracefully to the centre, where they werel caught up to a cdntre-piece. Ropes of lycopodeum from Avhich coloured lights -were suspended crossed diagonal-wise from the corners. The windows and facings of the stage were framed in tangerine S curtains, and greenery and arum lilies were effectively arranged on the walls. ,On the stage red, white and blue streamers, with lilies and greenery, formed an -squally p-leasing setting. The beautiful dresses of the ladies and the swdet strains of an orchestra completed a scene of beauty and gaiety. Mesdames Donald and Crowley were excellent mistresses of ceremony and ensured tfnei enjoyment of one and all. Vocal solos by Messrs Rhodes and Holmes were much appreciated. Extras were played by Mr Holmes, Mrs Davey, and Miss Barnett. After the ladies had served an appetising supper, Mr Kurth thanked the hostesses for the delightful evening, Avhich, he said, Avould long be reimeimbered by a,T. Mrs CroAvley said it gave the married ladies of tike district great pleasure to see suqh an assemblage of happy young people, and, indeed, made their efforts seem AveU worth Avhile. The committee had been fortunate in having such an able secretary (Mrs Donald) and secretary (Mrs H. Heddon), and Avas also thankful to Miss French and her willing helpers,. Avho had dedoratsd the hall so beautifully. The committee also, remarked Mrs Crowl-ey, tendered its thanks to the vocailists and instrumentalists for their ablq and kind assistance.
