THREE MEN ARRESTED

CHARGE OF STEALING CAR. (By Telegraph. Press Association.) TE KUITI. Monday. At 1.30 this afternoon the police at Te Kuiti arrested three men, Norman Travers, Joseph Henry Trask and Roy Edward Trask, and charged them with stealing a motor car. Since Friday night last the police have been endeavouring to locate Joseph Henry Trask and Roy Edward Trask, father and son, and a careful watch has been kept in the centres on the south side of Auckland. Yesterday ’ a search for these two men was made in the Te Awamutu district, where they had been seen. They were seen this morning near Te Kuiti and the arrest of the pair and the other man with them followed. Advice from Constable Fry, of Otorohanga, at about 1 p.m., stated that, a, motor car answering the description of the one stolen had just passed through the latter town, travelling at a high speed toward Te Kuiti. A number of local police took up a position at the intersection of King and Rora Streets, it having been reported that the car was approaching along the lower road. Constable Fry gave chase in another car from Otorohanga., and was successful in ascertaining that the escaping car had taken the Mangarino road. On receipt of this advice a car was commissioned by Sergeant Fearnloy and Constable Muir at Te Kuiti, while* Constable Annabel was sent to reconnoitre in another direction. The car containing the police set off in the direction of the Mangarino road and just as it was approaching the King Street bridge the stolen machine, in which were) three men, came round the corner. The police car pulled up immediately, thus forming an effective barrier. In view of reports, which had stated that the men were armed, the police took no chances, and for the first time in the record of the pblice in this territory an arrest was made under arms. No resistance was offered. The trio will be sent to Auckland by train to-morrow.
