WAIPA REPRESENTATIVE TEAMS DOING WELL. Following their wins in the earlier m'atches of the ladies' and men's tournaments now in progress at Auckland, the Waipa representative teams gained further distinction yesterday. On Monday the ladies' team met and defeated Kaipara by 5 goals to nil, and on Tuesday they achieved a second success, defeating Auckland B team by 4 goals (Miss K. Macky 3, Miss Leatham 1) to nil. The men's team, defenders of the White Horse Cup, played their first match on Tuesday, defeating Piako b" T 2 p-oals (scored by Bert Spiers) to nil. On Wednesday they defeated Maniapoto by 4 goals to 1. In the afternoon they met their Waterloo, for those doughty opponents, Rodney, registered a win by four goals to two. Rodney have always been prominent in White Horse Cup contests, and on June 3rd they defeated Waipa at Warkworth. Yesterday's match was a very fast one, and good hockey was witnessed. Waipa was one goal to nil at half-time, and appeared to be holding their opponent;s but. Rodney so;on asserted themselves and put on four goals in a quarter of an hour. G. Finch and B. Spiers scored Waipa's goals, and Rodney's tally was made up of three goals by Goe'rtz and one by Tovery. Waipa's position in the competitions is now insecure, with only two wins to Rodney's three. Both teams will play to-day, and the issue of the two games will decide who shall play Franklin in the final on Friday. Waipa have won the championship for the past four years, but reports from Auckland indicate that their play this week has. not reached the former high level. In the, ladies' contest yesterday afternoon, Waipa defeated Whangarei by two goals to one after an exciting content,. For Waipa goals were registered" by Misses Hyde and Leatham. To-day's matches include a White Horse Cup contest between Waipa and Tauranga, while Rodney play Piakp. Waipa ladies play Auckland Collegiate in the semi-final for the Provincial Cup.
