OTOROHANGA NOTES

KING COUNTRY , ITEMS. (Own Correspondent). Miss Claridge, formerly of Otorohanga, but more recently assistant at the Pio Pio consolidated school has received notice of her appointment to the staff of the Havelock South school •and has left the King Country to take i*P her new sphere of duties. V&espite "the wretched weather conditions that obtained throughout yesterday the Otordhanga fortnightly live stock sales were well attended, and bidding was spirited throughout —for most classes of the large yarding of sheep and cattle. Elsewhere in this issue Mr E. A. Parr, M.P.S., P.H.C., announces the opening of his new pharmacy, in Maniapoto Street, Otorohanga. In soliciting a trial from town and district residents Mr Parr offers quality goods at city prices, and guarantees his personal service and attention in all matters. Golfing i's becoming inci'easingfly popular on the Otorohanga links, with visiting players. On Saturday last the lady and eentlemen players from the Te Kuiti Club were engaged in a return match with thefsocal club members. The contests ended in a draw, each side winning six matches, while two finished "all sauare." Mr and Mrs Richmond (Pirongia Road) and Mr and Mrs Tomlins (Otorohanga) have left for a motoring tour of the Taranaki, Rangitikei and Wellington districts. Regarding the identity of the soldier's remains in France, upon whom a medal, was found, it is believed here that the identical medal was given to Lance-Corporal Ferguson, who before the war was a settler in the Otewa district, by Miss Muriel Taylor (now Mrs N. H. Moore of Hamilton) when they were engaged—during Miss Taylor's (then) residence in Otorohanga. While visiting a sister at Blenheim, Mrs Moore (nee Taylor) won the medal—or a facsimile of it—at a swimming tournament held there. This she- presented to LanceCorporal Ferguson, who did not return from the war, and was believed to have fallen near the locality where the medal was found on the remains recently discovered,._

The draw for the third round of the junior Rugby competition is as follows:—June 30th: Otorohanga v. Athletic; Honikiwi v. Otewa; July 7th: Otewa v. Athletic; Otorohanga v.
