SOLICITOR ARRESTED
CHARGE OF THEFT MADE, AUCKLAND, This Day. The police yesterday arrested John Henry Victor Mafisill, solicitor, aged 30, at whose meeting of creditors on Thursday allegations were made regarding the misappropriation of trust moneys. Later he was charged in the Police Court before Mr W. R. McKean, S.M., with stealin- £5lO, the property of Norman Alexander Whyte, insurance inspector. Mr Geisen, for accused, said it was well known accused had filed a petition in bankruptcy, and had handed over what assets he had. It was not known what bail could be obtained, but it was isuggested the amount fixed should be as low as possible. Mr Hammond said he understood two bondsmen would be willing to guarantee £250 each, and this was the lowest that would be accepted. The remand was granted, bail being fixed at £SOO, which was later obtained by accused.
