HAIRDRESSERS' CHARGES.

Sir, —Sorry, very sorry, am I to note that the barbers of Te Awamutu have formed a combine to raise the cost of living still further. I am the unfortunate posisessor of a head of hair which has for some time past proved expensive to maintain in anything like decent order; now it is likely to still further tax my resources. Whether it is the climate, or my own vitality, that is the cause, I do not know, but my hair is of exuberant growth, and requires constant cutting to prevent me from being mistaken for a poet. Worse still, my neck needs frequent shaving, as it, too, is hairy, the rapid growth on this portion of my anatomy being the. result of my at one time complying with a barber's request to have it shaved. The new tariff, advertised by the local hairdressers, puts "double hair cut and shave" at 2s. That evidently means me, and other such unfortunates —if there are any. The pity is that I can't get one back on this combine, as I have no wife to cut my hair at home; but those who have would be well advised to buy a pair of clippers, which any deft woman can use to advantage on husband or other member of the family. The oombine, by the way, doesn't condescend to explain the reason of its determination to increase its charges. "Rise in the cost of raw material," the usual excuse for exploiting the public, won't apply in this case. Time was when 6d was the top price for a hair cut and 3d for a shave; children's hair cut 3d. Why have- these prices risen threefold? It is simply preposterous —another, instance of how the farmer is victimised. —I am, etc., NEXT PLEASE.
