‘The unshrupufous man can evade any rule of law if he really desir.ss to be corrupt and directs his mind to such evasion. The only safeguard is the honour of the individual, and the only best of that honour is' the record and character of the person to whom is given, a position of trust. The difficulty, when honest men are baselies sly attacked, tts that whereas all hear the calumnies there are some who Ido not know the heal record or the character of the victim. It is! unfortunately, littfle consolation to remember Hamlet’s dictum that: ’Be thou as chaste as Ace, as pure as snow; thou • shalt not escape calumny.’ ’’—“Yorkshire Post.’’
