ATTACKED IN STREETS
MINER STRUCK ON HEAD. WAIHI, Wednesday. When returning to his hoarding house in the main thoroughfare about 11 o’clock last nffght after having visited some friends at the east end of tblel town a miner, William L. Rudd, was attacked by some person or persons unknown anti struck on the head with such violence that he collapsed on the footpath. The next he re' memibered was that his head was aching land bleeding freely. After staggering to the boarding house, about. 150 yards away he managed to scramble inside, and fell unconscious, ■j Medical aid-; was summoned and jßudld was conveya/d fto the hospital, where remained unconscious until the mornling, ~, Intiehviewedl later hy the .police, the injured man expressed the opinion that the implement used in striking hlim was a bottle. This view is supported by the result of the examination of the wound made hy Dr. J. M. pole, medical superintendent of the hospital. Rudd was reported to he making satisfactory progress thlis afternoon.
